Guadalest - the mountain fortress - Costa Blanca

First sighting of Guadalest Leaving Fonts D'Algar, continue along the same road to get to Guadalest, passing Callosa D'Enserría.

Your first sight of Guadalest will be a glimps of the fortified tower perched on a sharp rock high above the sierra.

When you arrive at Guadalest you will find plenty of free parking, coffee bars and restaurants.
Wandering towards the base of the fortress, which is now a national heritage site, you will see many souvenir shops. Some of the items are typical tourist stuff, including teas from England, but you will also find some very original local items.

Entry to the fortress village is through a tunnel in the rocks. Although full of tourist gift shops, you will also find the village school and the medieval prison cells. Tourism in the village of Guadalest

There is also the gallery of miniature art, which is worth seeing, but a little expensive. There you will see works of true art painted on the head of a pin, the wings of a fly, a grain of corn with The Lord's Prayer, etc. Truly amazing work!

As always, the views are stunning. Look out over the reservoir to the mountains, breathtaking.

Well, that brings us to the end of my little tour. From here you can head, either directly back to Javea by taking the road back to Callosa D'Enserría and then on to Altea, which will take about 20 minutes.
Or you can go on to Benidorm and party the rest of the evening. But I think you'll be pretty tired after all the windy roads, better to leave Benidorm for another day.
