Fabio Miano began studying piano
at the " Royal Toronto Conservatory" in Canada
when he was 8 years old. When he was 12 years old his family moved to Brussels,
in Belgium, where he began his
jazz studies with the pianist Paul Lambert.
In 1975 he returned to Montreal to continue his studies, finishing his degree course in 1979. |

Between 1975 and 1979 he played in concerts with numerous groups
formed within
the university, including 'Big Bands' from 'Concordia' and 'McGill'
universities.
In 1979 he moved to Spain,
playing in many different clubs and festivals
throughout the country.
In 1986, Fabio formed the sextet '6 in 1'
with whom he won
first prize in the
'Concurso de Jazz Valencia'
which included the facility to record an album with
the aid of the Valencia government and RNE (the Spanish national radio station).
In 1989 Fabio Miano retuned to the city of Montreal in Canada where he formed his own sextet along with playing concerts with his trio, accompanied by such extraordinary musicians such as Bob Mover, Pat La Barbera, Dave Young, Phil Dwyer, Lorne Lofsky and many more. In 1992, Fabio again returned to Spain and took up residency in the city of Alicante. Recently Fabio's CD, 'Reflections' (EGT 713 CD) has been released which includes Carlos Gonzalbez, also his disc with saxophonist Grant Stewart, for the Fresh Sound label, "Buen Rollo" (FSNT 053). You can also hear Fabio's last work on the disc, "Fabio Miano Septet - A Tribute To Oscar Peterson" (Xabia Jazz 001) which was named the best jazz record in Spain 2002, by the highly regarded magazine 'Cuadernos de Jazz'. Throughout his career, Fabio has participated as teacher at numerous international seminars, clinics and musical courses, giving classes in improvisation, harmony, composition, etc. From 1994 up to the present time Fabio Miano has played with the following soloists, among others: Jeanne Lee, Valery Ponomarev, Jim Snidero, Perico Sambeat, Pedro Itturalde, Ron Jackson, Tad Shull, Chris Flory, Deborah Brown, Grant Stewart, Ken Peplowski, Marlon Jordan, Donald Harrison, Gary Bartz, Eric Alexander, Kirk Macdonald and James Moody. |
