While you are in Javea you really must check out the local fishmarket in the
port. I believe it opens around 6:00 pm most evenings.
As the boats unload their catches they are are sold at auction to the various
restaurant owners and fishmongers. A selection of the catch is also sold at the
shop on the side of the auction house.
This is the place to go if you are planning on cooking a fish meal to impress.
You won't get your fish much fresher than this in Javea!
If you stay out of the way of the market workers and traders, I'm sure no-one
will mind if you enter the auction area to take a look and watch the goings on.

If you are used to buying fish in England I think you will find the prices very
reasonable by comparison.
Some of the fish are caught on a line, as opposed to in a net, you will see the
hooks left in to show this.
The staff will be pleased to clean your purchase if asked.
Everything in season will be found here, from squid and octopus to tuna and
swordfish. You will also find fish only found in the Valencia region. The
Lubina (sea bass) are delicious.
Also, try the Denia prawns, they are reckoned to be amongst the best in the
world! Cooked on the bar-b-que, with a little salt, garlic and olive oil, they
are an excellent way to start your meal.
