Costa Blanca day trip - Jalón and Coll De Rates
This is a day trip
taking in some interesting and beautiful places away from the coast.
Leaving Javea, head for Gata. From Gata take the road to Jalón which will lead you through some typical Alicante countryside passing the village of Lliber.
The Jalón ValleyIn Jalón you can visit the bodegas and buy bottles of wine with personalised labels or even barrels of wine! I don't advise drinking too much wine here, since the Jalón wine is known for its strength and you have a long drive ahead. On saturday mornings, by the river, there is an excellent rastro (car boot sale) where you will find many antiques and curiosities. Bar Olé is also near the Jalón bodegas, well known for the owner shouting Olé when someone enters. Tapas, etc, are available here, along with local dried fruits and other delicacies to take home.
Wonderful views of Jalón and the Costa Blanca from Coll De RatesFor the next leg of our voyage, leave Jalon by way of the bridge near the bodegas heading for Parcent. When you arrive at Parcent, look for and take the road to Callosa D'Ensarriá. This will lead you up to and over Coll De Rates, from where you will see the best part of the northern Costa Blanca layed out below. It is well worth stopping at the top, the view is stunning. If you make this trip around the second week of february you will see the valleys covered in pink and white almond blossom. Beautiful!
The mountain village of TárbenaContinue down the other side of Coll De Rates and after about 20 minutes of mountain driving you should come across the village of Tárbena. |
