My last day on Ibiza

A Valencia Day paella competition The last thing I expected when I came to Ibiza was to find a Paella competition in the street.
After such a late night, we almost missed the morning, arriving at a local internet cafe after midday. While my friend caught up on his emails, I had a beer down the road and heard a familiar sound, a dulcineta playing and the sound of fireworks.
Of course, it was Valencia day, Valencia's very own fiesta! The Valencia Society on Ibiza had put together a day of celebrations including a competition for the best paella, complete with 'mascleta'.

Winners of the Valencia Day paella competition

Cooked on an open wood fire, when the judging was over, it was time for everyone to try out the results. What luck that we happened to be passing by.
While we tucked into our excellent free lunch, the proud winners of the paella competition recieved their prize. Rightly won, I might add, all the paellas looked very tasty and the one we ate from was very tasty indeed.
What to do next? Well, a lay on a secluded beach sounded like a good idea. So off we went again in search of the sun to a small beach very close to my friend's house, Cala Bossa.

A boathouse at Cala Bossa, Ibiza

Complete with wooden boathouse, the beach was an excellent place to go, with those cristal clear mediterranean waters that I am used to in Javea.
What I am not used to is the spectacular sunset seen over the sea. In Javea, of course, the sun sets over the land!
Another aspect of Ibiza, that I particularly enjoyed, was seeing the small islets that seem to be everywhere around. Sailing around Ibiza must be a very enjoyable experience.

Sunset at Cala Bossa, Ibiza

So, after another spectacular sunset, it was time for me to get back and pack ready for the return ferry trip, which I was not looking forward to.
On the way to the port we decided to stop and have a meal. We chose Zafiro Restaurant (Tel: 971 343 903), where we had a menu del dia meal for about 7.50 euros. It was very tasty and excellent value!
If you are on holiday on Ibiza, in the San Antonio area and looking for a reasonably priced place to eat, Zafiro, Avda. San Agustín 118, Cala de Bou, is the place to go.

So, it was time to say goodbye and get back on the Ibiza - Denia slow ferry and sail back home.
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and am looking forward to a return trip, perhaps to take the time to visit more of the island of Ibiza.
