A short trip to Ibiza - The magical Island
I had been wanting to visit Ibiza
for a long time. Since a friend had recently
bought a house on the island, with a small apartment for guests underneath, I
decided to take advantage of his hospitality and jumped on the ferry.
The ferry from Denia
will cost you some 90 euros return trip and takes about 4
hours. That is for the standard boat, there is also a fast boat taking just 2
hours at 125 euros. Standard class, of course!
The ferry was looking a little worse for wear,
perhaps after a summer of
tourist abuse. The staff are friendly enough and there is a meal served on
board, which helps to break the boredom.
Although it is possible to see Ibiza from Javea
on a clear day if you are on
one of the higher points, it was interesting to be on the Mediterranean
between the two places and see them both quite clearly.
I landed at San Antonio,
at about 5:00 in the evening. First stop was a
portside bar and a beer! The difference between Denia and San Antonio is
enormous. The first being a large, somewhat commercial port and the latter
appearing quite small and picturesque. The beer was thoroughly enjoyed!
After leaving my things at the house
off we went to Cafe del Mar, down on the
beach, where you can witness the stunning Ibiza sunset. The sight really was
stunning, bringing a large crowd of sightseers and finally raising an applause!
The sun now well and truly set,
off we set for a light meal, a pasta dish for me and pizza for my buddy.
Although the prices were not horrendous they did seem a little dearer than
Javea. The restaurant was definitely above average though.
